Surprise #1
The surprises just don't seem to stop! This past week Arlene, the senior pastor's wife, asked me to lunch. It sounded like a great idea since I want to get to know everyone I work with. We headed out on Tuesday for the Buxton Inn in downtown Granville. We're just chatting away when I step into a room with lots of women I know all saying "surprise"! I had to laugh. Here the women at work had been planning a shower (literally right in front of me) and I hadn't a clue. They were amazed that I hadn't heard a single detail. I had to explain that unless you have my rapt attention and am fully focused on your face then I'm probably not listening to a word you say. I'm a terrible eaves dropper.
Well we all sat down and ordered lunch and chatted about motherhood and all the funny (and icky) stories that go along with it. It was wonderful! I work with a great group of women ...and men (sorry guys).
I'll post the pictures when I get them.
Surprise #2
That night I get home and rush to get the dogs around before Brandon gets home and we need to rush off to cell group. Tuesday we decided to do a potluck social and I had volunteered dessert duty. I made way too many cupcakes ...and a cake! We rushed to get to cell on time, but of course we were late due to me. We walk in and the people in the living rush shout "SURPRISE". I was like, "Huh? Hi?" I was so confused. I figured they were just being funny that we're always late. I walked into the kitchen to deposit the cake overload when I see the Kruegers and the rest of the group. The Kruegers gave it away since they were there and they aren't in our group anymore. I finally got they were throwing us a baby shower! Talk about a dense moment!
Cindy Baker had come up with the cutest games. Everyone had brought baby pics of themselves and we all had to guess who was who. It was HARD! I think Brandon only missed 2. After the game we all got plates of food and sat around and chatted. We have such an amazing cell group.
After dinner Cindy brought out the dry erase boards and the competition go started... Boys vs Girls in Baby Pictionary. It was high excitement and a lot of shouting. Of course the girls totally whipped the boys!
The group then gave us a journal that everyone had written advice in. Some of the entries made us laugh, some made us worry (does some of this stuff really happen???) and got us excited to have the baby in our arms. It was such a sweet gift.
Brandon then opened a huge box and low and behold.... DIAPERS- Economy size box!!! Julie Chio informed us that Jack went through 20 diapers a day in the beginning. I just stared in shock. I guess we're going to need diapers!
We then opened a smaller box to find a BABY BJORN!!! Everyone in our group with little ones swear by them so we were so excited to actually get one. We got a demonstration on how to use it b/c I was just staring at it dumbfounded.
It was a wonderful shower and a HUGE surprise!
